Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness

Approximately 85,000 women and 12,000 men (aged 16 – 59) experience rape, attempted rape or sexual assault by penetration in England and Wales alone every year; that’s roughly 11 of the most serious sexual offences (of adults alone) every hour. (Rape Crisis)
This can happen to anyone and in most cases, defenceless victims such as children.
Even though figures for victims and survivors are high, conviction rates are far lower than other crimes, with only 5.7% of reported rape cases ending in a conviction for the perpetrator.
Fay Maxted, Survivors Trust CEO joined Nigel to discuss sexual violence and sexual abuse awareness. Survivors Trust is the largest umbrella agency for specialist rape and sexual abuse services in the UK.
